The HIT IT AND QUIT IT REVUE Vol. I

Heads up! Our night we've been super-hyping for the last 2 months has arrived. We're really excited and think its going to be something special. Hope to see you there.

As for our promised Power Mix, we've all been pretty hunkered down with getting the night together so.... we'll soon be releasing the entire HIQI Revue Vol. I on 320 kbps MP3s (warts and all). If you can't make it at least you can dial it up after the fact.

Feel free to dig through our radio archives for some more flavor in the meantime.

Finally, we're proud to leak....
Feb. 12, 2010- The HIQI Revue Valentine's Day Special w/ SG Trus'Me.
Book it in.

The Scene

Its slightly late at night and I'm bugging out on these Scene videos... again.

THE SCENE was Detroit's city wide ruler of dance shows from 1976-1987, broadcast regularly on WGPR Channel 62... Their dancers we're out cold, the music was always knocking, and the energy was fire...

You can find some stellar footage, music, and more photos from the show here:

The Scene later morphed into 'The New Dance Show", a show I tuned into as a WIDE eyed youth.... Whaaaaaa? I'm still waiting to see something as real as this on TV now...

Big nods to my man Josh Dunn from 100limousines.com!

The Wizard

As a 12 year old growing up in the mid-80s Detroit area (era) nothing made more of a musical impression on me than the early radio days of Jeff Mills, aka THE WIZARD. It was a quasi-religious nightly ritual tuning into WJLB and hearing the Wiz smash through electric funk sets that made his wide palette of styles all sound like one incredible musical invention. Hip-hop was house was disco was electro was funk was anything he felt like. The Wizard was THE original b-boy techno turntablist.

This approach to music and dance music in general sticks with me to this day, and so it was with great excitement that I recently found some cassette rips of his early shows (large ups to DJ Needlz and the Detroit Techno Militia for sharing these!). I'm STILL getting chills listening to this... Enjoy.
