HIT IT AND QUIT IT- Feb. 23, 2009

Sorry for the delay, its been a thick week with RLB gigs and another Wellington trip for me this weekend. Come check STARBLAZERS (aka RLB) at the Wellington Beerfest if you're in the area, or come sip some high-end cocktails at the Matterhorn this evening if a quiet DJ engagement is more your thing.

Enjoy the show, Mad Mats guest mix is great! This Monday coming we'll have our main man Chris Cox up for some tag-team action, a special sneak peak of a new STARBLAZERS demo, and a double pass giveaway to our upcoming show at the Auckland Festival on March 7.

The Nite-Liters- "Drumology"

I was given the wrong Hit It show from the station today so we'll have to wait one more day for the Mad Mats guest mix thriller....

In the meantime I thought I'd post this Nite-Liters jam I've been wearing out (literally) since my man Craig Huckaby dropped it on me years ago, acquired straight from a water-logged basement. There are some other joints on 1973's Analysis record ("Happy Hooker" and the cover of "Valdez in the Country" are nice) but this is the one that's been on steady whoop it up repeat. See also, New Birth.

Hit It and Quit It- Feb. 16, 2009

Kia ora bays and wahines. We had an exceptionally interesting show this week, primarily because our special guest and good friend Julien 'Dynomite' Dyne dropped some serious heat from his forthcoming album 'Pins and Digits' and other hand selected disco and Dilla gems.

But we also had a comedic little incident that I can only label as 'corporate sabotage', at about the 20:48 mark in Pt. 1. Normally sabotage would be expected to originate from outside the company, this was not the case on Monday... 'We have to do a live phoner, sorry nobody told you.' I am going to bite my tongue but... WTF was the point of this?

And of course we had to pay homage to the late great Dilla, who continues to be a true inspiration to anybody with ears and a soul. Unbeknownst to myself (had I done a little reading I would have known) Dilla month was declared earlier in February by our friends at Stones Throw, a tribute fitting a lost prophet...

Anyways, enjoy the show and hollar back next week for an exclusive (yes really, exclusive) guest mix from our Swedish homie Mad Mats.

Arohanui....

If Rappers Were Characters From The Wire

I'm re-entrenching myself in The Wire universe at the moment, up to Season 1 Episiode 5, this time around with my lady. There's something very satisfying in watching your loved ones get sucked into the Wire vacuum as much as you did the first time. Anyways, thanks to my man Swicks for sending this brilliant link:

We're back! HIT IT AND QUIT IT for 2009

Friends.

Yes indeed the ol' blog has been lying fallow for three months now. Unacceptable.

But no more. Its a new year, the free world has a new leader, and things they are a change-ang. Including the Hit It and Quit It blog....

Firstly, I am happy to say I've negotiated a sweet deal to keep me on the air at George FM here in New Zealand. This means I will be rocking steady every Monday night from 6-8pm (many of you may have noticed I was absent for a good month and a half due to some behind the scenes issues, now sorted) and am back posting the show here for weekly download.

Secondly, at the advice of some much more tech-savvy friends (a la my main man Tim Aten and Jeff @ Mukuna) I'm now hosting the shows myself. Which means no more bullshit pop-up ads for naked gambling hoes from your zip code. Also looking at Feedburner and some other developments which I'm sure cyber-crew will have to re-explain.... Noice!

Thirdly, I'm getting stuck into shammying this show into something beyond the ordinary, or as my man Swicks likes to say, 'destination radio'. Meaning more guest mixes, special features, interviews, and possible antics.

So what I'm trying to say is, return often. Its good to be back and I look forward to spreading the aroha in the 09. Drop me a line and tell me what you think, how I can improve this, what you'd like to hear on the show (eg. 'yo matt, what about doing an interview with _____ about ______'), etc. etc. Feedback is all good!

Next up, Feb 2 2009 show. With very special guest mix from Trus'me... smoking! Feb 10 following shortly thereafter...
