Mr Booker goes to Melbourne

Yes, that's right: we at Hit It & Quit It HQ are on some worldwide tip this month, what with Recloose flying off to USA for gigs, I decided it was high time to pay another visit to one of my favourite cities: Melbourne!I'm gonna be dropping in on Ennio Style's legendary radio show (Stylin' on RRR) this Friday (29th May) for a chat and some music, then on Saturday night spinning with Eric Lau (Ubiquity), Kano, Inkswel and co @ Croft Institute earlier in the evening, before getting across town to First Floor for 'Disco Social'. All that before rounding off the weekend on Sunday (31st May) with 'Killing Time' alongside Mike Gurrieri & Inkswel. Big up to all my friends in Melbourne, can't wait to check it and throw down as we do at Hit It & Quit It. RAH!

HIT IT & QUIT IT May 17, 2010 + The HIQI DJs HIT THE ROAD

Hello friends. Here is the latest installment of Hit It and Quit It featuring Frank Booker and Recloose playing some new stuff and banging out a nice little Brazil set to pump up the local Aucklandinians for tomorrow night's Jorge Ben show.

Crew movements. I'm OUTTIE (Recloose...) for the next 3 shows... Booker and Harmonizer will be holding it down with an array of top-notch guests while I'm galavanting around the states.

Here's the rundown, I'll be back with some stories no doubt:
Guest spot on Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space radio show, gigging with Nicodemus at Turntables on the Hudson, back home for the Movement Detroit Electronic Music Festival (May 30, 2pm Mainstage), rocking our All In The Family party that evening with my Family Funktion/Serato/Wax Poetics crew (w/ VSG's Kon and Oliverwho Factory!), popping over to Chicago for a throwdown with my old school (literally) friends Good For Party and winding up in L.A. for a mysterious appearance somewhere very special. Guaranteed to be coming home with DJ sets and drops galore for Hit It and Quit It future installments...]

AND Booker's also off next weekend to Melbourne for a DJ swing through Croft Institute and then some so make sure you reach! Details on the way...

Hit It & Quit It Radio - May 3, 2010

What up all, this week's show was a goodie with the starting line up in full effect.

Mr Booker dug into his crate and brought out a few nice vintages.

Also Charlie Dark, of Attica Blues/Blacktronica fame, stopped by to talk about why he's in New Zealand and reminisce a litte.

He's in town for the People In Your Neighbourhood project, which you can check here People In Your Neighbourhood. Thanks to Charlie for taking the time out of his jet-lagged slumber to stop by.

So without further ado, some old some new and some good ole fashioned smack talk.
You know how Hit It & Quit It do.

The HIT IT AND QUIT IT REVUE Vol. V

Family. We had a BLAST at the last Hit It and Quit It Revue, proving that sometimes keeping it local is the best way to keep it real. With top heads like Manuel Bundy and Truent throwing down a cornucopia of funk and boogie gems (plus a rapturous Guru tribute) how can you do wrong??

The download links for the night are below. One word about these performances... FINESSE! (Well about pts. 2 & 3 anyways)

Many thanks to our crew Ben Lawson for the skillfull upload and Bill Gray for snapping some solid photos of the night!

Music Television

Well It's Sunday night down here, and I have just spent the last 2 hours perusing the Tube for old music videos. In order to make this seem like time well spent I have decided to post a few of them up here for all of you.

Evelyn King is by no means slept on but this boogie monster with great dancing and graphics got three rewinds from me so it made the cut

This next cut comes from a crew called Shabazz, I recently found a 12" by them from 86 called "Unified" at a record fair, which is everything about late 80s funk that I dig. Came across this trying to find a bit more about them. Great outfits.

This last one is a Bay Area hip hop video that's full of flavour. Apparently directed by what must have been a young John Singleton - it's great stuff. I came across it whilst looking for some stuff on Terry Tee. Inspired by a 12" I have of his and the Bay Area Stones Throw Podcast that 12ManRambo put out. Check out 12Man's blog here for a tape only part 2 to that mix.

Thats it from me folks hope you have a good week
tune in about 18 hours from now for the HiQi radio show
Peace
Sam
