RIP of the week: Erot 'Song For Annie'
Up at the radio show on Monday we were talking about how we've done some good drops on Soul & Disco stuff for the weekly rips, but this week I decided it was time to dust off a true deep house classic.
Released on the Idjut Boys always excellent (and highly collectible) Discfunction label in 1999, this was a big tune when it came out. I remember thrashing the shit out of the first copy I had (& subsequently lost!), and then grabbed it again on 'Saturday Nite Live' a Nuphonic compilation by the Idjut Boys.
Then about 3 weeks ago I came across on copy for $5 in Real Groovy Auckland. It made me go back and start enjoying this tune all over again. It still sounds so fresh 11 years on.
Anyway, the sad part of this story is the man behind this tune, Tore Andreas "Erot" Kroknes, passed away in 2001 at the age of just 23. He packed some amazing music into his brief life, producing the dancefloor classic "Greatest Hit" for his girlfriend Annie - to whom this song is dedicated.
He also worked as a designer for the Telle label, and did some banging remixes too.
Erot paved the way for the whole Scandinavian Disco sound that has been pushed along by the likes of Lindstrom, Todd Terje and Prins Thomas. Respect due!
Enjoy the tune, bump it nice and loud. Ripped from the original vinyl copy, a nice loud 320 mp3 for you all!

Thank you for remembering my brother Tore and his reat work. Today is the 10th anniversary of his passing and it prompted me to Google his name again, which I haven't done in a long time. I had expected that most of what was written about him online back in the days was gone, which when it comes to newspaper articles etc is true, but it really is touching to see that it's not only those of us close to him who still remember and honor his memory. Thank you for that.
i know it's been a while, but, is there any chance you can reupload this, please???
I've been searching this the whole web and this is the closest i get.
thank you anyways !!!
